The First Thanksgiving

During playtime this week, the kids played with Littlest Pet Shops and cars.

 

 

In our Letter Bag were things starting with T, like a turtle and a tree. We also had lots of "T" Show-and-Tells.

 

 

Our first activity was a craft. We talked about Indian Corn. Everyone got a paper with a picture of corn on it, and we glued painted popcorn to our pictures.

 

 

Next we played a game. One of the children left the room. The other kids were the "turkeys." The turkeys would hide around the room. When the child that left came back they had to find the turkeys. Anytime a turkey was found, we put it where turkeys go during Thanksgiving, the table.

 

 

Later we talked about how the Pilgrims made their own food. Then we made cornbread. The kids really enjoyed this.

 

 

For snack we ate cornucopias. Miss Lauren explained what a cornucopia was, and everyone got an ice cream cone. Then we filled them with cereal, marshmallows, chocolate chips and more.

 

 

After snack we had singing time. Miss Lauren brought a turkey with songs written on the tail feathers, and one of the children would come pick a feather. Then we would sing whatever song was written on the feather.

 

 

Finally, we shot turkeys. Miss Lauren set up water bottles with pictures of turkeys on them, and we took turns shooting them with the ball gun.

Perfect Plants

Our theme in preschool this week was Perfect Plants. While we were waiting to get started we played with Moon Sand and marbles.

After Circle Time, we learned about the letter P. In the Letter Bag we had a piece of paper, a pencil, a pair of pants, and more. Our Show-and-Tells that started with P were a police car and a puzzle.

To start off, we talked about how plants breathe carbon dioxide and we breathe oxygen. We did a relay to demonstrate this. Using a spoon, the kids carried the oxygen (white pompoms) from the tree to a picture of a person. Then they carried the carbon dioxide (blue pompoms) back to the tree. Blake was really good at this.

We also learned about parts of plants by making pictures that show the different parts of plants. The pictures included the roots, the leaf, the stem, and the flower. We also glued on rain and sun to show that plants needs those to grow.

Next we played a game called "Don't Eat Sprout!" Miss Lauren put a treat over pictures of plants. Then one of the kids left the room and the rest chose a picture to be called "sprout." The child that left came back and started eating the treats. When they picked up the treat on the picture called sprout, everyone shouted "Don't eat sprout!" Grant was the only one who ate all of the snacks before he found sprout.

Later, we pretended we were seeds. Someone would pretend to water a "seed," and the child would "grow." Then they would tell us what type of plant they were pretending to be. Maggie liked to be a "dancing flower."

Before snack we talked about how fruit is part of a plant and had some fruit snacks.

One of the kids favorite activities was making apple sauce. Miss Lauren's mom brought up a cool machine and filled it with cooked apples.  Each of the preschoolers helped turn the crank. Soon all applesauce came out one side and all of the skins and seeds came out the other side. Brynley plugged her ears as soon as she saw the machine because she thought it would be loud, but she liked turning the crank when she found out it wasn't loud.  After all their hard work the kids were each given a bottle of their homemade applesauce to take home and enjoy.

 

 

 

After making applesauce we went on a leaf hunt. We walked down the street and picked up  any leaves we saw laying on the ground. Joey wanted to be sure he got every leaf he could, so when Miss Lauren said that he shouldn't walk on the grass, he would jump as far as he could onto the grass to reach a leaf.

 

 

After collecting leaves we used them to make leaf rubbings.  The leaf rubbings were wrapped around a pot and each preschooler was able to bring home a plant of their own to take care of.
