Getting to Know the Night

Before we started preschool this week, the children played with Littlest Pet Shops and Planet Heroes.

After Circle Time and Show-and-Tell we learned about the letter N. In our Letter Bag there was a napkin, nail, and more.

We started off by learning about stars and planets. We talked about how some stars are planets. We also learned that constellations are pictures people "imagined" made from stars. Each of us got a flashlight and went into another room. On the ceiling were pictures of some of the constellations. Miss Lauren told everyone to look for a constellation in the sky. When someone found the right constellation, they told everyone so we could all find it.

Then we made our own constellation telescopes. Everyone got a toilet paper roll with black paper covering one end. The kids took pins and poked holes in the paper. We put star stickers on the tubes when we were done.

Next we had a visit from an astronaut and walked on a pretend moon.
We talked about how everything is lighter
on the moon, and had a moon rock fight using crumpled paper!

At snack we talked about how things float in space. Then we ate "floating donuts." The children loved trying to eat the donuts off the string!

Then we heard the story and acted out "Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed."

Later we made "Dream Catchers." We learned that Indians thought they protected you from bad dreams.

Finally we read some books about nighttime.
See you next week!
