Preschool Christmas Party

This was our last week of preschool! From 9:30-11:30 the kids did Christmas activities, 11:30-12:30 The childrens' parents came and watched a slideshow and a few performances the children did.

Before the parents came we played and had a short Circle Time. A student, Mariska had a birthday!

The first game we played was Pin the Parts On the Snowman.

Later, we had snack, ice cream cone Christmas trees!!! The children spread frosting on their cones. They decorated them with sprinkles for a cute snack!Last we played a present passing game. There was one present. The present was wrapped in many layers of paper. Each layer had a chocolate and a poem that gave a clue so we knew who to pass the gift to next. Here's an example: This is a fun game, pass this to the person with the most letters in their name! We would then pass the gift to Mariska.

Then the parents arrived, and we watched a slideshow of this semester! After the movie, the children sang some Christmas songs for everyone. It was a really fun semester!!!

Let's Go to the Zoo

Lions and tigers and bears, Oh my!!! This week our preschool topic was about the zoo, so after a little time to play, and Circle Time, we did games and crafts with a zoo theme.

The giraffe was first. Everyone got an outline of a giraffe. We drew eyes on it and drew leaves for it to eat. Then we gave it spots. We took a pencil, dipped the eraser in brown paint, and dotted the eraser onto the giraffe.

This week we reviewed the letters we've learned. We laid the letters on the floor, and Miss Lauren gave everyone animals to put in the "cage" that had the letter of the animal on it.

Our snack was lions. We took a two crackers, and Miss Lauren and Miss Cindy spread peanut butter on them. We broke pretzels in half and put them around the edges of one cracker. We placed the other cracker on top and put three chocolate chips on for the eyes and nose. It was a yummy favorite!!!

Miss Lauren brought her "pet elephant" to share with us! We got to "feed" it by throwing peanuts (Circus Peanuts) into it's mouth! Everyone loved the elephant!!! After we fed the elephant, Miss Lauren let us try a Circus Peanut.

We also learned about a zebra. We glued a white zebra onto a black paper. We put the zebra in a pan, and Miss Cindy poured a little paint on it. Then we used a marble to spread the paint around and give the zebra stripes.
Miss Lauren gave us a monkey toy that climbs when you pull two strings one at a time, and we played until our moms picked us up from a fun day of "monkeying around" at preschool!!!

Things That Go

This weeks theme was Things That Go, so for play time there were toy cars and trains. At Circle Time our letter bag had only pictures of things that began with the short A sound in it. One of the students, Garrett, had a birthday!!!

The first activity we did was make maps. First we drew the places we like to go to on our maps. Then we took a toy car, dipped it's tires in black paint, and drove roads on our maps!!!

A little later, we made our own cars!!! We took a cardboard box and glued on tires, a license plate, and head lights. We also screwed on a steering wheel! Some of the children even added decorations to their cars.

During snack time we went to a drive-in movie theater!!! The children got in their cars and picked-up a snack from Miss Lauren. Then we watched Mater and the Ghost Light. The children had a lot of fun!

After the movie, we went outside to play with our cars. We played Red Light, Green Light and we drove through an obstacle course. The children lined up behind Miss Lauren, and we drove in between barrels.

Our final activity was riding a "train." Each child got a ticket, which Miss Lauren collected before seating them. Then while we drove along Miss Lauren would tell us about where we were. For example when Miss Lauren said "We're about to go up a hill!" Everyone leaned back like they were going up a hill. We went on the train ride until it was time to go. When you're in preschool it's so much fun to always GO, GO, GO!!!

The Pilgrims' and Indians' First Thanksgiving

We had a terrific Thanksgiving week at preschool! As always, this week began with play time.
At Circle Time we learned about the letter T.
First we had a turkey chase. A few of the children would leave the room, and the rest would hide. Then the other children would come back in and look for the hiding children. When a hiding "turkey" was found, the "hunters" would chase them and put them where all good turkeys go, on the table.
Later we made a turkey craft, a hand print turkey. After we made a hand print on the page, we wrote the letters of our name on paper turkey feathers and glued them to our hand prints. We drew a turkey in the center of the hand, and tada!!! We had a really cute turkey craft!
For snack we ate mini pies. We filled mini shells with the fillings of our choice, cherry, vanilla, or apple. Then Miss Lauren topped them off with whipped cream.
We divided into groups for our next two activities. Miss Cindy took some of the children downstairs, and Miss Lauren stayed upstairs with the rest. While downstairs the children talked about how pilgrims had to make their own stuff. Then they dipped their own candles.
The children upstairs made Indian hats. We talked a bit about Indians made their own things too, and then we sewed beads onto our hats. We attached feathers and wore our own Indian hats!!!
To finish such a fun week of preschool, we had a turkey shoot. We used a ball gun and shot down "turkeys." Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!

Perfect Plants

This weeks preschool was great! In our Letter Bag were things that began with P.

One of our Show & Tells this week was a pink princess plate with plants on it. It went perfectly with our letter! To begin our plant week, we talked about how plants breath in carbon dioxide and breath out oxygen, which is good because we breath in oxygen and breath out carbon dioxide. Then we played a relay. In the relay we used spoons to move the air, pom-poms, back and forth between a tree and lungs.

Our first craft was making plants out of paper. We reviewed the different parts of plants and what they need to grow.

For snack this week we ate different parts of plants. We ate roots (carrots), leaves (lettuce), stems (celery), fresh fruit, (apples/grapes), dehydrated fruit (craisins), seeds, and things made out of seeds, and even something made from nectar! Wow! Plants sure provide us with lots of food. Then we went on a plant scavenger hunt. We found all sorts of fun things! While we were on our hunt, we gathered leaves for another activity.

When our hunt was over we played DON'T EAT SPROUT!!! We put M&Ms on pictures of different plants. One person leaves the room and the group chooses a picture to be "Sprout." The person who left comes in and starts eating M&M's. When the person picks up Sprout everyone shouts "DON'T EAT SPROUT!!!!!" Then a new person is chosen to leave, and the game goes on.

Everyone got a flower as a gift from Miss Lauren, and then we used the leaves we gathered on the hunt to make leaf prints. What a perfect plant week!

Beautiful Birds

At Lauren's Little Learners Preschool this week, we learned about an "egg"-citing topic, Beautiful Birds!!! Our letter of the week was E. In our letter bag we found an egg, an Etcha-Sketch, an elephant and more.
Our first activity was meeting a real bird!!!! Miss Lauren's pet, Sunshine, came to preschool and let us feed and hold him!!! To celebrate this special occasion we made "Happy Bird-day!!!" cards. When we opened these pop-up cards, there was a tweeting bird inside them.
Then we learned about eggs. We discussed the different parts of an egg, and then each of the children took turns cracking an egg. We ate an omelet made out of the eggs we cracked! Next we made a nest. We flew around and gathered the pieces to our nest, flew back and put it together, and then pretended to be baby birds. We began as eggs and hatched into baby chicks.
For snack we ate like baby birds. With their heads tipped back and their mouths open wide the children cheeped loudly for their snack. We ate lots of different bird snacks! Like gummy worms, Gold Fish Crackers, grapes, and seeds (candy corn). Later we "napped" like birds. The children gathered under the mommy bird's wings (Miss Lauren's arms) and slept until it was time to practice flying!
Flying practice was lots of fun!!!! The baby birds all enjoyed flying, but sometimes a baby bird would "fall" and need help from the mommy bird!
When a baby bird learns to fly it makes it's own nest, so our last activity was making nests. We glued the pieces of our nests to a small paper plate. Then we made chicks for our nests. We opened an Easter egg and glued the inside to the nest. We glued paper beaks and googly eyes to the egg. This craft turned out really cute!!! Preschool went really fast this week, because time "flies" when your having fun and so do preschoolers!!!!

An Ooey Gooey Halloween

Hi everybody!!! This week's preschool was a Halloween party, so everyone dressed-up. Before preschool started the children played boardgames. The day before preschool a student, Katelyn, had a birthday!!!
Our letter this week was H, so everything in our bag began with H.
We also had a special guest during Circle Time, a hamster. Everyone loved him!!!
The first activity we did was playing with ooey gooey slime. The children really enjoyed this!
Then we made spaghetti pictures. The pictures turned out really cute, though some of the children's pictures were half eaten.
By the time everyone finished their pictures we were all hungry, so we made a "snack." We put in some spooky ingredients like a cat's brain (oatmeal), the finger of a swamp monster (pickle), pumpkin blood (apricot ? and vinegar), and a witch's magic powder (baking soda). When we poured in the magic powder, it bubbled up. But sadly, no one wanted to eat our snack...
So we ate Halloween jigglers with popcorn instead.
After a bit of playtime, we shaved some Frankensteins. We squirted whipped cream on the pictures of Frankenstein and shaved it off with our tongues.
Then we made milk jug luminaries. The children cut out faces for their jugs and glued it on. Then we used Christmas tree lights to light them up.
To end another great day of preschool we played the Eyeball Bounce. The children took balls (colored to look like eyes) and threw them into some cups with prizes in them. They got to keep whatever was inside the cup. After getting our prizes, we ate popcorn and cupcakes brought by some of the children's mothers (Thank you). We had a fun week of preschool!
