The Berenstain Bears and the Mama's Day Surprise

At preschool this week we learned about what mom's do. We read a book from the Berenstain Bears series called The Mama's Day Surprise.
Before we began are other activities we divided into two groups. The group with Miss Lauren used chalk to decorate plaster handprints we made last week.

Miss Cindy and the children with her made wrapping paper for our handprint gifts. They spounge painted. They had so much fun, and the wrapping paper turned out really cute!
In our story the mama bear goes shopping, we talked a bit about shopping. Each child got twelve dollars to spend. There were lots of options of things they could buy. They enjoyed picking what they wanted!Again, we split into groups. Miss Lauren took some of the children and did a "chore training relay." They had to weave a vacume around some cones, crawl under a table, sweep a ball into a laundry basket, put clothes into a laundry basket, climb a ladder and grab a cloth, spray a plate and wipe it clean, and then put everything back so the next child could go.

Miss Cindy and some of the other children did a reading game. There were lots of paper heart halves. On each half there was a capital letter and a lower case letter. The children had to find the matching half.Happy Mother's Day!

The Ugly Duckling

We had lots of fun at preschool this week! We read the story of The Ugly Duckling. Then we played "Duck, Duck, Swan," instead of "Duck, Duck, Goose." Miss Lauren's cousin, Miss Hallie, helped teach this week. She played with us too! Then we divided into groups. The children with Miss Cindy practiced writing letters in shaving cream...

The children with Miss Lauren painted their paper mache eggs from the week before.

Later we ate snack!!! Miss Lauren cut a pound cake into slices and we pretend it was bread. Then we took turns pretending we were ducks (or swans), and we "fed the ducks (or swans)."

Miss Hallie took some of the children and painted pictures using feathers...And Miss Lauren took the other children and played a matching game. There were twelve eggs. Six of the eggs sounded like the other six. The children had to find the pairs using sound.

Thanks for reading!!!

The Easter Egg

Our story this week was called The Easter Egg. We celebrated Easter this week!!! The first activity we did was making paper bunny ears. Then we did the Bunny Hop! It was really fun! Miss Cindy took some of the children, and Miss Lauren took the rest. The children with Miss Lauren had to bowl down chicks with an Easter egg...

The children with Miss Cindy made paper mache eggs. They LOVED this!!! Later we swapped activities.

Once we finished, we ate snack!!! Miss Lauren gave each of us some bunny crackers! Yum!

Again we divided into groups. The children with Miss Lauren did a reading activity. There were lots of eggs with letters on them. The children had to match the eggs to a hen that had the same letter on her. (e.g. The eggs with F on them went to the hen with F on her)

The children with Miss Cindy dyed eggs!!! They had lots of fun!

Happy Easter!!!

Hickory Dickory Doc

Another week of preschool, another week of fun! This week we read The Completed Hickory Dickory Doc, a story about what the mouse did for the rest of the day after he ran up the clock.

One of the things that happened in the book was the mouse getting chased by a cat. So we played a mouse and cat game. We blindfolded one of the children, they were the "cat." Everyone else was a mouse. The cat crawled around trying to catch a mouse. If the cat needed help they could meow whenever they wanted, and all the mice had to squeak back. We played until everyone had been caught.

We split into groups. The group with Miss Lauren made "AT" rhyming wheels, and decorated the wheel to look like cheese. We decorated a mouse and glued it on. The children loved decorating their mice!

The children with Miss Cindy made paper clocks and practiced telling time. They used markers and stickers. The children had lots of fun!!!

After switching activities, we made snack. We ate pizza clocks this week!!! We took half an English muffin, spread on tomato sauce and cheese, and topped it with pepperoni and olives to make it look like a clock. We put them in the oven to cook.

While snack cooked we learned about different clocks. There were 7 gift bags. In each bag there was a different object we use to keep time. We all took turns opening a bag. There were all sorts of things, like an alarm clock, a metronome, and a sundial. We talked about how we use each clock.

A bit later, our pizza clocks were done!!! We all loved eating them. After snack we went to the preschool store and played until all the children were picked up.

See you next "time!!!"

Jack and the Beanstalk

Fee Fi Fo Fum!!!! This week preschool was lots of fun!!! As we walked up the stairs, we "turned into giants!" We had to go through a tiny door, and even our Circle Time was tiny!!!! (Lauren's Little Learners is very grateful to Garrett's mom for sharing the idea of "tiny day.")
After Circle Time, we did an excersise game named after the main character of our book, Jack. We did Jumping Jacks!!! Soldier, tree, soldier, tree. The children had a great time!!!

We rolled a dice that said how to do a certain number of Jumping Jacks. (i.e. Loudly, slowly, etc.)

We learned a song which we sang every time before we did the Jumping Jacks.

Later we took turns doing a reading activity and a math activity. Miss Cindy taught the reading activity. They made a domino train matching letters and pictures with the same first sound. (e.g. A domino could have a Z on one side and a picture of an umbrella on the other. You would place the domino with the U on it next to the umbrella).Miss Lauren taught the math activity. We talked about inches and feet, and used "the beanstalk" to measure ourselves, the "giant," and other items. Our snack was jelly beans!!! The children loved test tasting them to see which ones they liked. Once everyone finished snack, we made a craft. We talked about different kinds of beans. Then we set out beans, rice, markers, and glue, and the children made bean collages. They really enjoyed this!!!!!
Finally, we played a game about the giant. One person is selected to be the "giant." The giant will then say a chant, such as: Fee Fi Fo Fue, I smell someone wearing blue!!! Then anyone who fits the discription needs to change seats. The giant tries to catch someone before they sit down. Whoever is caught becomes the giant. If only one person fits the discription, they automaticly become the giant. This activity gave us good practice making up rhymes. As you can see we all had lots of "Fee Fi Fo Fun!"

Little Red Riding Hood

This week our story featured ANOTHER wolf! We read the story of Little Red Riding Hood! We split into groups right after Circle Time. The group with Miss Cindy followed an ABC path to Grandma's House. They sang the ABC song as they stepped on the letters. Then we mixed up all the letters on the carpet and took turns finding sounds/letters or spelling our names without touching the carpet. The group with Miss Lauren learned a song/chant: "Wow Whee! What can you see? Big eyes! Big eyes! Gran's got big eyes!" Then would come "Big Ears" and it kept going until we reached "Big teeth." At the end the children would scream, they liked that part. After learning the chant, we made wanted posters. We cut out different facial parts from magazines, and glued them to our posters. The faces had big/ little eyes, ears, mouths, and noses. It was really fun! Later we swapped activities. Before snack we went on a "Adventure." Everyone sat down and Miss Cindy would explain where we were "going." We moved as she told us to. (i.e. When we "walked" we pat our legs.) When we "arrived at Grandma's House," we had a picnic. The children loved this!!!!

Again, we split into groups. The children with Miss Lauren played a game called "What's in my Basket?" They set out a plate with plastic food on it, a cup, some silverware, etc. They would choose one child to go into the other room, and they would choose an item to put in the basket. They would call the other child back, and the child would have to guess what was missing.

The children with Miss Cindy had a small safety lesson, and they practiced their phone numbers. They talked about different situations and what they should do.

Then we swapped activities.

See you next week!
