Ooey Gooey Halloween

Before we started preschool, we played with cars, puzzles, and Bendaroos. A lot of the kids wore great costumes!

First we had Circle Time and Letter Bag. For weather, Miss Lauren asked Brynley what she saw in the sky and she said "trees," so our weather chart was unique today. :)
Our letter was H. In the Letter bag there was a hat, hippo, and more.

We had a special visitor that started with H... A hamster! Ben brought his pet hamster and everyone fed and petted it.

For one of our crafts we made pictures with noodles.

We played Halloween Charades. Someone picked a piece of paper out of a witch hat, and acted out what was on the paper while everyone guessed.

Then we made a "Witch Brew." We added scary ingredients like "pickled monster fingers," mandarin oranges and vinegar, and "witch's powder," (baking soda.) When we poured in the witch's powder, the brew bubbled up. No one wanted to try some...

So we ate Halloween Jello Jigglers and Halloween pretzels instead!

Next we played Eyeball Bounce. The children took turns throwing an "eyeball" into cups with prizes in them. They got to keep whatever was in the cup the where the ball landed.

Later we did the Monster Dance. We played Halloween music and danced like whatever monster Miss Lauren called out.

Afterwards, we played Shave the Frankensteins. Everyone got a picture of a Frankenstein in a sheet protector. Miss Lauren squirted whipped cream on the face of every Frankenstein, and we "shaved" the whipped cream off with our tongues.

Then we played "Pumpkin, Pumpkin, Jack-O-Lantern," a Halloween version of Duck, Duck, Goose.

Finally, we played Pumpkin Toss. We all lined up and took turns throwing pretend pumpkins into baskets.
Happy Halloween!

Wonders of the Wind

Conveniently, it was a windy day outside when our preschool theme was Wonders of the Wind. While we were waiting for everyone to arrive, we played with trains and a wind tunnel.

We started with Circle Time, Show-and-Tell, and Letter Bag. Our letter this week was W. For Show-and-Tell, Blake brought airplanes, Brynley brought a pinwheel, and Maggie brought a watermelon wallet.

Our first activity was playing with parachutes.   Miss Lauren gave everyone a parachute toy to use.   We took turns dropping them down the stairs and trying to catch them.  We learned that the air pushing on the parachute made it go slower.

Next we made pinwheels. Everyone chose a piece of construction paper and drew on it then we folded them into pinwheels.  It was fun to hold them in front of the fan and watch them spin.

For snack we ate popcorn ball "clouds."

Afterwards, we read "Zoud the Cloud" and talked about how wind blows clouds. We each took a straw and pompom "cloud," and play games blowing our clouds to the finish line.

Later we colored pieces of paper which Miss Lauren folded into paper airplanes.
We practiced flying our planes.

After airplanes we went outside to blow bubbles.  Everyone was getting pretty good at blowing bubbles.  Later we went into the garage and Dallin showed us his giant bubble maker.  He let us take turns popping the big bubbles.

After all that fun we played with trains, puzzles, and the wind tunnel while we waited for our parents.

We can't wait for next week!

Getting to Know the Night

Before we started preschool this week, the children played with Littlest Pet Shops and Planet Heroes.

After Circle Time and Show-and-Tell we learned about the letter N. In our Letter Bag there was a napkin, nail, and more.

We started off by learning about stars and planets. We talked about how some stars are planets. We also learned that constellations are pictures people "imagined" made from stars. Each of us got a flashlight and went into another room. On the ceiling were pictures of some of the constellations. Miss Lauren told everyone to look for a constellation in the sky. When someone found the right constellation, they told everyone so we could all find it.

Then we made our own constellation telescopes. Everyone got a toilet paper roll with black paper covering one end. The kids took pins and poked holes in the paper. We put star stickers on the tubes when we were done.

Next we had a visit from an astronaut and walked on a pretend moon.
We talked about how everything is lighter
on the moon, and had a moon rock fight using crumpled paper!

At snack we talked about how things float in space. Then we ate "floating donuts." The children loved trying to eat the donuts off the string!

Then we heard the story and acted out "Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed."

Later we made "Dream Catchers." We learned that Indians thought they protected you from bad dreams.

Finally we read some books about nighttime.
See you next week!

Colorful Creations

This week we learned about colors, while waiting for everyone to arrive, we played with marbles, alphabet blocks, dominoes, and pattern blocks. Grant put the blocks in alphabetical order!

Next we had Circle Time. We learned about the new month, October.

Then we did Letter Bag. This week our letter was C. In our letter bag there was a cow, cookie, and more. Joey traced the picture of C all by himself.

Afterwards we played a game. We set out color pads. Then one of the children would roll the giant dice, and we would do what was written on the dice. (i.e. crawl to blue) Maggie was really good at sharing her color pads.

Later we experimented with mixing colors. Each kid got red, yellow, and blue clay. We mixed the clay to make other colors, then made sculptures out of the clay.

Snack was next. We made cereal and candy necklaces. We put rainbow cereal on a string, and when we were done we made candy necklaces.

Then we went on a color hunt. Each kid got a list of colors. We dug through a box of stuff to find the colors on the lists. Blake liked the cars he found.

Next we painted color wheels. Everyone got red, yellow, and blue paint. Then we mixed the paint to see what colors we could find. Brynley found purple.

Later we read a book about colors. Then we learned the colors of the rainbow to the tune of "London Bridge Is Falling Down" and played a game.  Two people used their arms to make an arch, which the children walked under while we sang our colors song. Whoever was under the rainbow when we were done helped make the next rainbow. We also played some other color games.

Thanks for a fun day of preschool. We're tickled pink for next week!
